Diving in March

At last, after shivering a a sea chilled down to 28c things are now warming up and should reach 30c or higher.

This is the time of year when Pattaya can offer better diving than in South Thailand. This is because south Thailand is subject to sudden monsoons.  Apart from the big waves making life uncomfortable the sea gets stirred up and the visibility drops.

Pattaya, on the eastern seaboard of the Gulf of Siam has a rainy season, but the diving is all year round. This is a big plus for divers who are training to become a professional on one of our dive instructor internships as there are no lost days.

We have a special package for divers who want to turn pro and live and work in exotic parts of the world.

This diving internship takes six months and  Diving Thailand was the first dive centre to offer "pay-as-you-go" terms. Most of our competitors demand the full cost of training, equipment and accommodation - up front and the fees are usually non-returnable.

If you fancy the idea of getting paid for diving in the world's top holiday locations then you can start an internship by paying just 4,500 Thai baht. That pays for the special one-day Discover Scuba Diving, that allows you to experience the magic of "flying" weightlessly  over the coral reefs . If you enjoy the experience of the DSD and want to continue then you are already on the first rung of this ladder to diving success. After that you pay only for each course when you take it.

Pattaya's newest wreck

The Royal Thai Navy honoured their promise to sink a second ship as an artificial reef and tourist attraction in September 2008 The new wreck, HMTS Luang Khud ,is a sister ship of HTMS Khram, Pattaya's first ever artificial reef  which has already been taken over and redecorated by  marine life.

The Luang Khud was formerly the US Exno and saw action in the Korean war. Later she joined the Thai Navy's fleet, but after 51 year's service was decommissioned and sunk off Koh Sak, one of Pattaya's near islands in September last year.

Her "sister" ship, the Khram was sunk near Koh Phai, nearly 20kms off Pattaya, in January 2002. Both ships are sitting in the sailing position at 27m.  Wreck purists  will be delighted to learn that neither wreck has been over "sanitised." Apart from the engine being removed the ships are virtually in their original condition.

We have been diving both wrecks regularly and rate them as wreck suitable  for newly certified Advanced Open Water divers (under supervision) and experts. The topside is in easy reach of less experienced divers, while those capable of penetration can find some nice dark bits inside  to test their skills.

                    An unforgettable experience

Set aside one day of your holiday for the experience of a life-time by coming with us to swim and play  with dolphins. We'll pick you up at your hotel in a new air-conditioned mini bus for the journey through rural Thailand towards the town of Chantaburi, where the dolphin park is situated.

First you will see the show and then go to a huge pool to swim with the dolphins. There are two sorts of dolphin - the Pacific Humpback  "pink" dolphins and the more unusual, cheeky little Irrawaddy dolphins. They'll all tow you through the water at high speed or do many of the tricks that you will have seen in the show. You reward them by popping a fish in their mouth.

This is the sort of day out that will give you and your family memories for a lifetime.

We have scheduled trips most days of the week to the dolphin park and can also arrange private trips to suit your timetable at a slightly higher cost.

Customer pick-up time depends on the location of their hotel in Pattaya but is usually between 7-8am. We have two different programs, but both include a stop to feed monkeys at "Monkey Palace" which is at a Thai temple. This can be on either the outward or home bound journey depending on how the time is going.

On arrival at the dolphin park you will see the show which lasts around 45 minutes and ends with a spectacular "surf" ride by a young Thai boy standing on the backs of two large, high speed, pink dolphins.  Then you will go to a huge training pool where there is a floating platform about 20m from the edge. You swim out wearing a life jacket.

Some of the dolphin trainers will be with you to help you get the most fun out of your 45 minutes with the dolphins.

After that you will have a Thai lunch (not too fiery) on a floating restaurant and then return to Pattaya by 6.30pm after a short stop at a roadside  market where you can check ou the local fruit in season. One of the programs includes a visit to a water fall in a Thai National Park.

The all-inclusive price for the trip from Pattaya is 2,300baht per person and 3,200baht per person for private trips. There is an additional 200baht fee to enter the National Park.
